Your group will travel 22 miles on the Arkansas River through the beautiful and most popular section of whitewater in the United States, Brown's Canyon

This Colorado River rafting trip is perfect for families, large groups, first time rafters, non swimmers, and anyone who wishes to experience a great day of Colorado River Rafting! This could well be the highlight of your western vacation and the best Colorado River rafting trip possible. The Brown's Canyon Colorado River rafting trip includes 13 class III to IV rapids including the infamous Sidel's Suckhole. We leave enough time on your Colorado Rafting trip for a side hike to a waterfall or a jump off "jump rock" into the icy waters of the Arkansas.

Brown's Canyon Half Day - Colorado River Rafting Trip

The Brown's Canyon half day Colorado River rafting trip rafts through the most popular section of whitewater in the United States! You will start this spectacular Colorado river rafting trip from our Buena Vista office and raft for 12 miles through the beautiful upper Arkansas River valley where you float below five 14,000 + foot peaks! The rafting on this trip is the perfect combination of beautiful scenery and whitewater. Brown's Canyon is packed with eight class III - IV rapids including famous Zoom Floom rapid where a photo is taken of your raft and available in our office at trip end to prove that you were there. This raft trip is perfect for first time rafters, families, non swimmers, and large groups, groups on a budget or anybody who wishes to spend either a morning or afternoon on the river. Don't be surprised if this rafting trip turns out to be the highlight of your summer vacation!

If you have a full day to spend and only wish to spend half the day on the river you can combine a half-day Brown's Canyon rafting trip with a half-day Mountain biking trip and see the Colorado Rockies in the best possible way!

The Brown's Canyon half day trip is available three times a day from May 15th until September 15th. We depart at 8:30 am, and 12:45 pm. You can choose either a paddle boat ( you paddle, your guide steers), or an oar boat where the guide does all of the work so you can relax, hold on and enjoy the ride.

Recommended minimum age is 7 years.

Wild Horse Canyon Express

This is the longest full day that we offer at Buffalo Joe's in total you can expect to travel over twenty five river miles. You start in the secluded Narrows section of the Arkansas River and get in all twelve class III - IV rapids. For lunch is our famous Buffalo Joe's Steak Dinner (veggie or chicken available) with corn on the cob, salad, watermelon, and dessert. After lunch you raft through Browns Canyon and experience the challenge of twelve more class III - IV rapids including the infamous Sidel's Suckhole.

The narrows express allows you to enjoy both canyons of the upper Arkansas River in one day!

Due to the length of this trip we are only able to run this trip in June and July. Recommended minimum age is 10.

Wild Horse Canyon Full Day

North of Buena Vista is one of the most secluded sections of whitewater on the Arkansas River. The Narrows is a beautiful and technical section of class III - IV whitewater. This is a perfect trip for someone looking for moderate whitewater without the crowds that you may find on other sections of the Arkansas River. You can expect twelve class III - IV rapids and the Buffalo Joe's Steak Dinner (chicken or veggie available) with corn on the cob, salad, watermelon, and dessert. This trip also offers a change for guests that have been on the Browns Canyon Super Deluxe full day with us before and wish to see a different section of river.

We only raft this section at certain water levels and trips scheduled in August may be moved to Brown's Canyon due to water levels. Recommended minimum age 10.

Numbers Full Day Trip

For the whitewater enthusiast or someone looking for the ultimate in whitewater rafting excitement, the Numbers section of the Arkansas River will give you what you are looking for. This section starts with continuous class IV and V whitewater that lasts for eight miles. Then your group will be treated to the famous Buffalo Joe's Steak Dinner complete with salad, corn on the cob, watermelon, and dessert. After lunch you will continue through the Narrows section to complete your day.

You can expect to raft a total of eighteen miles during the full day. Highlights of this trip include amazing whitewater (16 class III to V rapids), beautiful mountain scenery, and a cliff jump to end the day. If you are looking for the most exciting whitewater that the Arkansas River has to offer, book your trip in late May or early June you will not be disappointed.

Due to the challenging aspect of this section of river we recommend that all participants are 14 years or older and in good physical condition. We recommend guests choosing this trip have experience on class III or higher whitewater. We also require wetsuits rentals at all water levels.

Brown's Canyon Overnight

This is our most basic overnight and is perfect for the adventurer on a budget or someone with time restrictions. It is also the perfect weekend trip and will allow for enough travel time to get you back home without feeling rushed.

We start at 11:00 a.m. on the first day at our main office in Buena Vista Colorado. The afternoon will consist of ten miles of rafting with class III - IV whitewater. Once you reach camp the guides will set-up camp and start the evening meal. You will have a couple of hours before dinner to relax, play games, or do whatever you wish. Dinner will be served around 7:00 p.m. and the guides will do all of the clean-up and preparation of dessert. Dessert will be served around the campfire.

Breakfast will be served at 8:00 a.m. the next morning and you will be on the river by about 9:00 a.m. The rest of the morning will be spent on the river with seven great class III and IV rapids. Expect to return to the main office about 12:00 noon on the second day. You can then be on your way home or to your next destination.

Brown's Canyon Two Day

The Narrows / Brown's Canyon two day is perfect for someone looking for two full day's of whitewater rafting with all of the amenities that Buffalo Joe's has to offer. This trip starts above the town of Buena Vista, Colorado, where you float by five 14,000 foot peaks. By the end of the trip you will have traveled over twenty five miles on the Arkansas river. Included in these twenty five miles are fifteen class III and IV rapids!

Day one starts at our main office in Buena Vista Colorado at 9:00 a.m. You will be on the water by 10:00 a.m. and have four class III and IV rapids before lunch. Lunch on day one is the popular Buffalo Joe's Steak Dinner (veggie or chicken available on request) and then on to the campsite. We should reach the campsite around 4:00 p.m. There will be plenty of free time until dinner is served. After dinner, save room for a delicious dessert. The rest of your time at camp can be spent however you wish.

Breakfast will be served between 8:30-9:00 a.m. and you will be back on the river by 9:30 a.m. Day two will feature eleven class III and IV rapids while you are enjoying the beautiful scenery of Brown's Canyon. The final rapid of the trip is a class IV rapid named Sidel's Suckhole and it will thrill even the most experienced rafter. This trip returns to the shop around 4:00 p.m. on the second day.
